With the increasing popularity of the food truck craze on Santa Monica’s Main Street
and the high turnover of restaurants in the neighborhood, BRG recognized a need for a
restaurant that serves the local community excellent food in a comfortable, laid-back atmosphere that could be here to stay. With that, the concept of Brick+Mortar was born.
Santa Monica
Located at the heart of Santa Monica’s Main Street, tucked away in the Edgemar Center for the Arts, lives Brick+Mortar’s first location. After a fast and furious 8-day re-vamp of the space previously known as Salute Wine Bar, Brick+Mortar opened in February of 2012 and quickly cemented its status as Santa Monica’s best hotspot for incredible food in an exciting atmosphere. Brick+Mortar incorporates the elements of a classic neighborhood bar in a chic, luxurious way, while serving up a mouth-watering menu of Modern American fare that surprises the senses by adding a twist to the simplest dishes with unique, artistic presentation.
San Diego
Brick+Mortar’s second location opened in September 2012 in The Keating Hotel in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. After seeing The Keating on a recent episode of Gordon Ramsay’s Hotel Hell, BRG partners Travis Lester and Justin Safier recognized an opportunity to bring the Brick+Mortar concept to the hip San Diego neighborhood and to the visitors of The Keating. The historic brick structure of the building provides the ideal venue for Brick+Mortar’s incredible food and exciting atmosphere. The fact that Travis Lester is from San Diego was the icing on the cake. He says, “The decision to open a restaurant in my hometown, San Diego, was a natural one. We’re excited to get back into the local community here and offer them exceptional service, and of course, great food.”
Partners Justin Safier and Travis Lester formed Broseph’s Restaurant Group (BRG) in July of 2010 out a passion and love for the restaurant industry, as well as the belief in a need for more restaurants with outstanding culinary experience paired with exceptional atmosphere. The word Broseph reflects the uniquely loyal relationship that Travis and Justin have as partners as well as with their entire staff who are friends, and even more so, family.
After the great success of their first restaurant, Bar Esquina, BRG set their sights on Santa Monica, California as the location of their next endeavor. After a fast and furious 8-day re-vamp of the space previously known as Salute Wine Bar, the first Brick+Mortar opened in February of 2012 and quickly cemented its status as Santa Monica’s best hotspot for incredible food in an exciting atmosphere. The second location for Brick+Mortar, a concept that will eventually find a home in neighborhoods nationwide, opened in September 2012 in San Diego. BRG are also the proud owners of Smoke, an upscale steakhouse in West Hollywood, California, and Fatty’s Public House in Los Angeles.
